Another Little Piece Kate Karyus Quinn Books

This book caught my eye because of the amnesiac story. Love those! But this one is a bit different from what I expected. At first glance, it's the story about a girl who was kidnapped or something for a while. Except . . . it's not. It took me a couple of chapters to realize what was actually going on and then it just got more gruesome from there!
I enjoyed the book greatly and would recommend it to those who don't mind some gore and icky spine-creeping feelings while they read. If you're looking for just a cutesy story about girl falling for a boy . . . look elsewhere.

Another Little Piece Kate Karyus Quinn Books Reviews

I have attempted multiple times to try and finish this book with no such luck. I find it very slow, it doesn't suck me in, and was not a page turner. I also wasn't a huge fan of girls selling their souls... sounds demonic to me. This book is going half unread.
I read this book in one day, and it has continued to be with me well into this second day. Initially, I began reading it because I am moving from teaching elementary school reading to teaching junior high reading next year, and this came up as a suggestion in one of my newsletters. This is not a book for middle school students. It is dark and complicated, and has many, many situations that may be difficult for that audience. I disagree with the reviewers who believe that the stories were not complete. I believe the author tied up all of her loose ends beautifully - of course the life stories of many of the girls were cut short by the nature of the way the tale unfolds. The story writing and feeling I had as I read the book reminded me very much of Gillian Flynn's Dark Places & Sharp Objects (though neither of those have a supernatural element, and neither are for the young adult market). Thank you for starting my summer with a book that, while it will not be able to be on my classroom shelf, has been a thoughtful and emotional read.
*3.5*
I'm still not sure whether I really like this book or not. It was definitely interesting and quite different. Different than most other YA books I read and also quite different than I was expecting from the synopsis. In fact a little while into reading it, once I realized the odd direction the book was going, I actually put it down for a while and wasn't sure when I'd get back to it. But I was curious enough about the idea and where it would go that I eventually came back to it and did find things to like about it, just possibly not as much as I had originally expected when I excitedly bought it as a kindle daily deal. But again I did come back to it and it was an interesting read, especially the closer it got to the end, hence the bumping it up to 3.5.
This was a different kind of horror story. The beginning was kind of confusing at first, but as I kept reading, it drew me in. It's main character is Annaliese Rose Garden, who suddenly reappears after one year of being missing. This is the second time she's returned, the first being covered in blood only to immediately disappear seconds later. This time Anna/Annaliese has amnesia. As Annaliese's past begins to unravel, things get creepier. There are a lot of flashbacks, but this book isn't overwhelming. However, it does require patience, as the pieces are slowly connected together. I think this book was well executed and the story line was original. It gives a new meaning of "eat your heart out". I liked the pace of this book because it kept me on the edge and wanting for more. This book was very eerie and has right mixture of blood, gore, and paranormal elements.
This book is tightly written, strange, and gutwrenchingly real. In many ways it seems like a re-visioning of a fairy tale- the little mermaid who was willing to walk on knives to get her prince, the wicked queen making snow white cut her heart out.

A girl wakes up in a cabin after having been missing for almost a year- she has no memory of her life, and no idea how she got halfway across the country. After being taken back to her family, she begins to have disturbing visions of violence- memories that say she isn't the same person who everyone says she is, but a monster who stole her body after she granted her a wish- to make the handsome yet secretly sensitive star football player at her high school fall in lust with her, so maybe he would love her.

It would have been a five star book if the ending hadn't been a little bit vague. If you are concerned about the rolemodels in YA- how the choice is always between two boys and not two fates, and about the idea that maybe it shouldn't be encouraged to give everything up for a boy, slip this into your teen's reading pile.
What did I just read? I thought it was going to be a contemporary novel about a girl who has been missing for a year and suddenly arrives back in her hometown with no knowledge of where she's been. I guess it could be defined as paranormal but I'm not exactly sure. This book has trigger warnings for cutting, cannibalism and rape. I think it would have been a better story at the end if you actually met the physician and had a clear definition of the brujas. This is just down right weird. I wouldn't define it as horror or creepy. I do like the cover but it's very misleading to what the story is actually about. I'm thinking it should have been a girl eating a heart on the cover.
This book caught my eye because of the amnesiac story. Love those! But this one is a bit different from what I expected.
