Jane Yellowrock World Companion eBook Faith Hunter

Let me start off with pointing out that I am not usually a big fan of series companions or reference books, but this one is quite well done. This gets my "thumbs up" by being much more than a compilation of dry facts about the JY world.

The short scenes and novella were the real draw for me, but I have to admit that after a series stretches out past the first few books it gets harder and harder for me to keep track of the action, especially when I've read other series while waiting for the new release or it has been a while since the first few installments were published. Also, with complex world building comes a larger cast of characters as well as a vaster "stage" in which to place them. Seriously, I have a tough time remembering my own phone number, people. It was time for Jane's world to have this desk reference. I needed the help!

Now, when I want to grab something off my shelf for a quick reread, the summaries provided in the companion will give a good frame of reference and help orient myself in the story timeline. If you are already a JY fan, you will love the short scenes from Bruiser's POV and even newbies to the series will enjoy getting a taste of Jane/Beast's world in the werewolf hunting novella.

Although I think that seasoned JY readers will get the most out of this particular offering, the digital edition is priced right and new fans shouldn't be afraid to give Jane's world a try. I betcha you'll be picking up the first book, Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, Book 1), or ordering the upcoming Black Arts (Jane Yellowrock) before you know it!

Jane Yellowrock World Companion eBook Faith Hunter Reviews

I really enjoyed this companion book, it explains what has happened in each book up to this point so if you're like me and have been reading them since they first came out this is a good refresher to get us ready for Black Arts. The short story was Jane/Beasts usual exciting tale. Lots of action with a great story, this time about some Werewolves killing people and Rick and his crew are teaming up with Jane and her team to find out what is going on and to put a stop to it. Since I have the hots for Bruiser I was pleasantly surprised and delighted to read some stories from Bruisers point of view. I loved getting to know him even better.
Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock series is one of my favorite reads, so maybe I am pre-disposed to love all her books. Of course, this was no exception.

As the World Companion, this book is also about the series and the world created by Ms. Hunter. There are synopses of all the books and short stories thus far, as well as a novella leading up to next installment due out any day now, Black Arts!

The novella was great, in "Under a Bloody Moon," Jane and her crew of Eli and the Kid have been contracted by PsyLED, the government supernatural agency, to take care of a "Wild Dog" problem, not far from New Orleans. One thing I loved about this story, was that it advanced the relationships between Jane and her on again/off again boyfriend RickyBo, and with Beast, her soul sharing companion.

This is a great series, and I would encourage any fans of good Urban Fantasy with strong, interesting female characters to try it out, though I recommend starting with the first book of the series, Skinwalker.
Jane is an amazing character that is a perfect balance of kick- butt heroine with enough depth to keep everything fresh and engaging. The new shorts & novella in this companion, not to mention the glimpse of the world through Beast's eyes and all the rest of the goodies are simply perfect. I especially adored seeing Jane from Bruiser's perspective, he's my favorite love interest. Jane is never boring, and even after multiple re-reads of this companion (and Ms. Hunter's other Jane offerings), a new facet of Jane's world reveals itself. Cannot wait for the next release, and the one after that! Thank you, Ms. Hunter, for sharing Jane and her world with us, we really appreciate her!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading through the various compilations about Jane and Beast, language, timeline for the tales of Jane. Kudos and congratulations to Carol Malcolm for her integral contribution to the success of this book. I found the short story exciting and tantalizing, keeping me on the edge of my chair and gasping because I was holding my breath so often at the twists and turns of the rapidly moving action. I think that everyone who's liked Faith Hunter's Yellowrock novels will find this a great "companion" to the series, and reading the 1st chapter of the soon-to-be-released Black Arts definitely means it's on my wish list for preorder and a suggested Christmas gift to anyone who's looking for the perfect gift for me. Ha.
If you have seen other series "companion" type books, then you already know the format. Characters, jargon specific to the series or somewhat less than well known, summaries of the current books and or stories...but you don't usually get an interview with a mountain lion who's soul is "sharing" the body of a Cherokee Skinwalker! And this book is worth the money for Beast 's relationship advice, if for nothing else!
But there is more! A short story from "Bruiser's" ( just one of the men interested in Jane) point of view, certainly made me want to take up dancing!
Then a brand new novella taking Jane on a very dangerous hunting trip, especially when she's hunting werewolf!
If you are new to the series, start at the beginning! But if you've already fallen in love with Jane and her world, then you really don't want to miss adding this to your library!
Besides, it helps fill the time until Black Arts comes out in January!! )
