Heather and Josh are your quintessential young, attractive and sweet couple that you love to read about.
Heather is definitely harboring a HUGE dark part of her life from Josh. Josh seems to be a very level-headed, stable, gorgeous guy that is almost too good to be true.
Josh's initial uninvited jump into her car from his motorcycle was a bit disconcerting to me (I hope if I had a 19 year old daughter that this happened to - she would mace his a** on sight).
Immediately the author shows that Josh is a good-hearted kid with good intentions. It goes beyond just wanted to get into bed with her.
Heather holds onto her angst and dark secrets for a long time.

I hate books that drag out the "big misunderstanding" or "tormented character" forever and thankfully the author doesn't.
ALthough Heather's issues are really deep; Josh (and Heather's therapist) help her continue her ability to trust and open to a relationship at both an emotional and physical level.

The 'big misunderstanding' is resolved fairly quickly.

What I liked:
- Both characters are likeable. Heather doesn't dwell on her past and doesn't go around perpetually saying, "I am hurt. I don't trust. I am fearful." She keeps pushing herself to grow and move on. She doesn't do it recklessly. She is very smart about it. Josh is adorable. Sexy and extremely patient with Heather. Wow - what 22-year old boy could be so sensitive?
- Romance in general: Josh and HEather's romance and falling in love is well written and beautiful.
- so glad that they didn't hop into bed right away and then fall backwards in the relationship. Glad that it was a natural progression forward and slowly

What I didn't like:
- the big ZINGER at the end bothered me. It was TOO much of a coincidence (although that is what the author was trying to achieve, Fate or the Stars - what brought them together). I think it was a little sick at the twist at the end. I think it would really be hard for Josh to deal with the circumstances as much as Heather. Just a bit too weird/disturbing for me.
- the therapy session. there is a therapy session that is so unconventional and to me- irresponsible; made me dislike the therapist

I recommend this book to read as a heart-warming romance of young love.

I was aching for Heather for all the pain that she suffered. And I was in awe of her for making the effort and willingness to let go of her past. And Josh was there to help her. All of us have their own baggage to carry. It's just up to us if we want that baggage to drag us down. With Heather, she took the leap of faith in trusting Josh. She started living her life again and let love in her heart. Both of them healed each other and together they learned to let go of their pain because their love is stronger than anything!
4.5 stars from me. I really liked it. It's a beautiful story about pain, loss, love & healing. I loved the characters. They are all so real. The way Josh & Heather meet is hilarious & even better that it's based on a real event. I loved the reference to Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc (it's my favourite). I loved Heather. Hers is a sad story & her path to healing us tough. Josh Hansen well who wouldn't fall in love with him but he has his own demons to overcome & my heart broke for him.
I love the idea of fate, free will, the stars guiding us & the universe providing so this was a story for me. Loved it )
This book kinda fell flat for me although it started on a pretty cute note. Heather has been hiding from the horrific past. I don't think it will be a spoiler to tell you her parents died three years ago. They were part of a cult-like church and committed mass suicide by fire. Heather left everything in Wisconsin and went to live with her aunt and uncle in Los Angeles. Her aunt/uncle leave for Italy, so Heather is on her own for the summer. As she's driving home from work, two guys on a motorcycle pull up next to her convertible at a red light. Hunky Josh actually gets off his motorcycle and jumps in her car! Heather thinks she's getting mugged but Josh is actually trying to ask her out. Because of Heather's past, she's pretty gun shy about dating but Josh seems to sense that and goes slow. It's actually sort of sweet, but I guess it just gets a little muddled for me. I can't really put my finger on exactly why I didn't quite like this book. Heather says she believes in things like the stars and cosmos. Josh says he believes in fate. It's a bit crazy how their lives have converged but I don't think I'll recommend.
A powerful, moving, simple story, with a subtext of psychological complexity in a gently-textured plot..Deceptively easy to understand, nothing terribly over-literary here in a boy-meets-girl-meets-fate scenario...but sometimes words don't have all that much of a say. This story is about feelings, and how emotions can both heal and destroy. So they meet, look cute together, play cryptic games...Happily ever after, nice and easy, you think? Well, hell, no, with the emphasis on hell. A flowing, graceful writing style draws you in...but then ties you in knots. What's hard to comprehend -- the understated horror depicted so rationally right before your eyes. Life's no party for either Josh or Heather, yet, in the end, they are part and parcel of each other, and damn, you feel for them. You want them to take it and run with it, off into the sunset. Surely, they deserve happiness. The ironic twist, turning the tables on the vicious treachery that linked them, winds up being their link to love, making you want to cheer and cry at once. And so the healing begins amid despair. With the cruel truth outed, there can be no doubt...that a unified future is theirs. Nothing heartless here, except the way Heather leaves Josh in the lurch, when he reveals his own horrific secret. Just her own pain taking the reins, and it literally drives him off a cliff. But then she gets back on the horse, and sweeps Josh up with her, smart girl. I'm a finicky critic, but I have to say I loved this book.
